Marketing Focus – Living Up To Your Hype
Marketing Focus – Living Up To Your Hype

When starting a new business, you know what you want to offer and who you want to offer it to. The target then of course is to get people interested and buying into your product or service so that it becomes successful. PR, Advertising and Promotions are excellent at attracting new customers, but it can be tempting to make claims that you can't then live up to. Remember, customer loyalty and long term success cannot come from marketing alone so think carefully before making claims!

It's better to under promise and over deliver than to make unrealistic claims and then disappoint when people come to you. So make sure you offer the best customer experience and beware of claims such as being "the best" "the cheapest" or "the quickest". Here are a few Dos and Don'ts to follow:

Dos and Don'ts

• Do under promise and over deliver
• Do train staff with company policy so they become advocates
• Do only make promises you intend to keep
• Don't think you need to position yourself as the best

Specsavers Opticas - Case Study
Client Case Study - Specsavers Opticas

Since 2010, Shaw Marketing Services have been working with Specsavers in the UK to promote their Spanish stores on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca. Since we've been working with them, they have launched three new stores in Mallorca, Benidorm and Guardamar del Segura and they have had some fantastic results. They had a 95% increase in Spanish customers during 2010 and they recorded a 4.90% increase in sales in 2011.

Since relocating their optician and reopening as Specsavers Opticas in November 2011, the partners in Benidorm saw a great increase in sales and customers. Similarly in Mallorca they achieved a 400% (July to December 2011) increase in custom in their opening months. This is due to the power of the brand but also the excellent marketing and PR support the stores receive and we are delighted to be a part of helping them to prosper despite a difficult economic climate.
