Help Specsavers to help a charity this Christmas

Throughout December, all eight Specsavers Opticas stores in Spain are taking part in a Christmas charity appeal to provide food, clothing and gifts to children and families who may otherwise go without. All stores will be acting as drop off points for donations on behalf of various local charities.

Business Development Manager, José Ángel Moral-Tajadura tells us “Supporting charitable causes this Christmas is important to us with many families in Spain feeling the effects of the recession, not to mention ill children or those in care who need our help to have a happy Christmas. Our stores are passionate about their chosen charities and are all doing their bit to encourage donations.”

Specsavers Opticas in Marbella are collecting new and second hand toys for children with cancer on behalf of charity AECC (Asociación Española Contra el Cancer). AECC distribute the toys to children with cancer in hospital and at home in the Marbella area.

Specsavers Opticas Fuengirola are collaborating with their local branch of the Red Cross and collecting non-perishable food and items for babies which will be distributed to those in need over the festive period. Required items include rice, sugar, coffee, pulses, milk, pasta, tuna, toiletries, cleaning products and powdered baby milk.

Specsavers Opticas in Benidorm, Calpe and Javea are taking part in the annual Toy Drive campaign for The Friends of the Children of EMAUS, a completely voluntary group of individuals, based in the Northern Costa Blanca, whose purpose is to raise much-needed funds for the children in the EMAÚS children’s shelters. Their toy drive will provide presents for the Children of EMAUS spending this Christmas in care and the stores are urging locals to donate new, unwrapped toys, board games, gifts and clothes. Carole Saunders from the charity says “People needn’t spend much, even something simple such as a woolly hat or some colouring books would make lovely gifts for the children of EMAUS.”

Donations of non perishable food and children’s toys would be greatly appreciated at Specsavers Opticas in Guardamar where they are collecting on behalf of Caritas charity. Caritas is a charity working on behalf of needy families and individuals, who for whatever reason find themselves without the basic necessities of life, such as food, clothing and shelter. They are focusing on supporting local men who are out of work or experiencing difficult times and all donations will be distributed within Guardamar this Christmas.

Specsavers Opticas in Torrevieja and Santa Ponça in Mallorca are welcoming donations of canned food and children’s toys on behalf of the Lions Club. The Lions Club is best known for fighting blindness.  It helps local Spanish residents in need, and also sends much-needed supplies such as eyeglasses to third world countries. The charity has requested any wrapped presents to be labelled for ages and gender appropriateness. The stores have also been collecting glasses for the Lions Club over the past year and will be presenting these to the charity to be distributed to third world countries.

Please help us put the smile back on a child’s face this Christmas by making a gift or food donation to any of the Specsavers Opticas stores on the costas. All donated gifts will then be collected by the various charities and delivered to local families for this Christmas and Three Kings.
