In a major boost to local charities, optical chain Specsavers Opticas have announced that each of their four Costa Blanca stores have formed ongoing partnerships with local charities.

For the next twelve months, the stores will raise funds for these charities, support their campaigns and help them raise awareness.

  • Specsavers Opticas’ Jávea and Calpe stores are supporting Caritas – Caritas is a charity working on behalf of needy families and individuals, who for whatever reason find themselves without the basic necessities of life, such as food, clothing and shelter.
  • Specsavers Opticas’ Benidorm store is supporting The Friends of the Children of EMAÚS  – The Friends of the Children of EMAÚS are a completely voluntary group of individuals, based in the Northern Costa Blanca, whose purpose is to raise much-needed funds for the children in the EMAÚS children’s shelters.
  • Specsavers Opticas’ Torrevieja store is supporting The Torrevieja Costa Lions Club The Costa Lions Club is best known for fighting blindness.  It helps local Spanish residents in need, and also sends much-needed supplies such as eyeglasses to third world countries.

The support that Specsavers Opticas can provide these charities is really important to them. Iain Bennett, President of the Torrevieja Costa Lions Club commented “Specsavers is the main company in Torrevieja supporting our charity and over the last three years they have donated over 5,000 pairs of spectacles to go to people in need in third world countries. There is always a shortage of glasses in these countries as they have no medical support, so Specsavers’ donations are absolutely vital to people with poor vision.”

Specsavers Opticas’ business development manager José Ángel Moral-Tajadura explained that charity support is a key element of Specsavers’ philosophy across the globe , “Our stores are run by opticians who care deeply about the health of their communities, and we are committed to supporting charities that provide tangible, hands-on support to people in need.”
