Of course, we believe its money well spent, however if you have the time and the skills to try to do it yourself, there are some excellent resources out there to help.

I always encourage my clients to take an active role in the marketing of their company and here are a few of my favourite websites where you can start learning about marketing techniques and find advice from experts on how to improve the marketing you are already undertaking.

Back in 2009, a client asked me to research and write an article about how businesses can effectively use Twitter to promote themselves and I must say I was very skeptical. All I’d seen of Twitter up to then was people telling you every detail of their boring lives from being tired, to going to the shops, so frankly I didn’t think the article would be easy to write.

To my surprise there was loads of excellent “Tweets” from businesses which linked to an informative article, made people aware of an event or promoted a special offer. I realized that actually Twitter holds great business potential and works in tandem with the other key social media tool, the blog, to expand your content and drive people to your website.

Last time I wrote a Marketing Focus piece about Email Marketing and why it was such an effective method of communication. However I know that if you are already undertaking email marketing and you are not getting the results you want, it can be difficult to know what to change.

I am a great believer in email marketing, because it is a cheap and direct form of marketing which generates results. However, you need to believe in it too, as it’s a question of consistency and perseverance to really get the results you want.

Email marketing is a way of drip-feeding information about your company and product to an audience who already have an interest in you, because they’ve joining up to your mailing list, met you via networking or done business with you in the past. The idea is that once you have a large database who are receptive to your message, that you should send them regular communication of a high quality so that one day it will hit their inbox when they have time to read it, were thinking of changing their supplier, or were looking for something you can provide. Basically you need to keep hitting them until they are ready to respond, ensuring that your company is at the front of their mind when the need arises.
