10 Tips for the best Hotdesking experience
Following on from my week of hotdesking at Our Space Marbella I wanted to share 10 tips for making the most of being a hotdesker and getting around any of the issues you can face when working in a shared space.
- Bring a mouse itโs much more comfortable and quicker than the touchpad
- Make sure that you can access all your files using storage in the cloud
- Donโt forget your chargers or power cables โ although if you do, donโt be shy to ask to borrow one from your fellow coworkers, that happens a lot
- Think about your transport โ I tried my car and the moped and I definitely preferred travelling by bike as you can whizz through the traffic and park easily
- Donโt think 9-5 Monday to Friday โ With 24/7 access come when it suits you, work through the night if you need; you donโt always have to go into the office, only when itโs right for you and your business
- Get people to come to you โ itโs the perfect space for meetings, so stop travelling to your clients and get them to come to you
- Try different areas โ I tried three different areas during the week and to my surprise I actually preferred the more open space in the main coworking area to the more formal desks. You donโt even have to sit in one spot the whole day, feel free to move around and make yourself at home
- Network โ Donโt keep yourself to yourself, take advantage of all the people around you to build your network and find your next clients. Be brave, say hi to people and go to the regular networking events that are organised for you
- Train โ There are so many courses available, take advantage of them and improve your skills and productivity. Professional development is key to success, and when itโs free and comes to where you are, youโd be crazy not to!
- Take a break if you need to โ If you donโt have much work over summer or Christmas, or you know a few slow months are coming, donโt worry. You can stop the monthly fee and then start again as before when the money is coming in and you know you can afford it.
