Calvia Lions Club Diabetes Testing Event Santa Ponça
To raise awareness about diabetes and to help the local community, Specsavers Opticas Santa Ponça is once again joining forces with the Calvia Lions Club to hold a diabetes testing event on Saturday 17th February 2018 from 10.00am to 12:00pm. This is open to all, free of charge and no appointment is necessary. During the event, qualified nurse Rina Quinn will be conducting a simple finger prick test to detect the signs of diabetes. Results will be given immediately and if positive, patients will be referred for medical advice. This type of screening can detect pre-diabetes and diabetes, a condition with over 422 million sufferers worldwide.
World Diabetes Day 2017 highlighted the issues that women face with diabetes globally. It revealed that around 8% of all women live with diabetes and highlighted that diabetes in pregnant women substantially increases the risk to health to both mother and child, as well as the risk of the child suffering from diabetes in the future. To support the theme of World Diabetes Day the team are encouraging women and particularly pregnant women to come down and be tested.
Calvia Lions Club and Specsavers have joined forces to offer this free screening. Please come along to Specsavers Opticas Santa Ponça, Avda Rei Jaume 1, 117, Locales 14 y 15 on Saturday 17th February to get tested. Call 871 964331 or visit www.specsavers.es for more information.
