Here’s an interview with Andy Turnbull, IT Support Director of Shaw Marketing Services.

Where are you from? I’m originally from Bournemouth, but have lived all around the UK, spending many years living and working in London.

What do you do within Shaw Marketing Services? I am an IT specialist, so I offer Costa del Sol IT Support services as well as working with Georgina to integrate online and offline marketing for our clients. We can offer clients the following services:

• Ongoing IT Support packages for regular maintenance

What’s your background? I have worked with computers for over 20 years, so have a lot of experience! I trained in micro-computer technology and worked at an electronics company fixing electronic equipment. The natural progression from this was moving into computer repairs, so I opened up a shop selling and fixing computers in Bournemouth.

After a few years, the draw of the big city took me to London where I became IT Manager for the clothing retailer Jigsaw, responsible for the computers and tills in all the stores nationally (and in the US!) as well as the IT support team within the Head Office. It was a great job, especially as I was surrounded by beautiful models every day, but very stressful and long hours! Before this I’ve had contract IT support roles within companies such as ICI, several .com companies, Granada Television and the NHS to name a few.   

What brings you to Spain? I was tired of working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, hidden away in the basement – as all IT departments are! I wanted a better quality of life and to get back to my roots with hands on IT support as well as consultancy, rather than be tied up with management duties all the time. I love the sunshine, food and culture of Spain and haven’t looked back since I moved here in 2006.

What do you do when you aren’t working? I have a passion for fast cars and driving on track at race circuits. I did a lot of trackdays in the UK and help out here organising days and instructing people how to drive on track. I also love eating out and enjoying the great nightlife on the Costa del Sol.
