Ten Tips for Summer Business Survival in 2026
We’re so lucky to live and work on the Costa del Sol, a dream summer destination for tourists from around the world. However, for many businesses, it can be a difficult time. While the hospitality sector is buzzing with tourists, other industries often face a “summer slump” as clients head to the beach and decision-makers go offline.
In 2026, the way we work has evolved, but the challenge remains the same: how do you stay productive and positive when temperatures soar, and the workload reduces? Whether you are pushing hard to hit targets or taking time to recharge, approaching the summer the right way is key to success (whatever that looks like for you).
After 18 summers supporting clients with marketing in Spain, we’ve got it down to a fine art, and here are our 10 survival methods to help you navigate the Spanish summer with ease.
1. Embrace “Sincronizada” (Flexible Hours)
In 2026, the rigid 9-to-5 is a relic of the past. If your client base is quiet, don’t feel chained to your desk during the hottest part of the day. Many Spanish businesses now adopt jornada intensiva (intensive mornings) or split shifts to avoid the midday sun. Consistency is key, so update your Google Business profile and automated email signatures to reflect your summer hours. You’ll often find you’re more productive in a focused four-hour morning block than a lethargic eight-hour day.
The key is to maximize productivity and minimize guilt. If your workload allows Fridays off, embrace the pleasures of long weekends with family and friends. If the afternoon is dead, sign off early and head to the beach. Let’s enjoy where we live and work, not punish ourselves!!
2. Hydration 3.0
It sounds elementary, but dehydration is the quickest way to lose focus. Beyond the standard 2-litre water bottle on your desk, focus on “eating your water” with high-content seasonal snacks like chilled gazpacho, watermelon, or cucumber. If you’re working from a home office, keep a cooling face mist nearby—it’s a small luxury that provides an instant mental reset.
3. Curate Your Workspace
If your main office isn’t staying cool enough, don’t be afraid to migrate. One of the perks of the 2026 professional landscape is the abundance of “Work-from-Anywhere” spots. Head to a local air-conditioned coworking space, a quiet café with high-speed WiFi, or even a shaded poolside spot. A change of scenery can often spark the creativity that a stuffy office stifles.
4. Audit, Reflect, and Automate
If the phones aren’t ringing, use the quiet to work on your business rather than in it. Take this time to review your performance from the first half of the year. Use your AI analytics tools to identify which marketing channels are actually converting and which are just noise. Look at what tasks are tying you up and see if there are automation options, or if you can delegate them to free you up for more important tasks. Set your objectives for September now, so you can hit the ground running while your competitors are still shaking the sand out of their shoes.
5. Hyper-Personalized Client Re-engagement
Summer is the perfect time for “low-pressure” networking. Instead of a hard sales pitch, send a personalized video message or a quick note to lapsed clients. Ask how their summer is going and share a useful resource or an interesting article you’ve read. For VIP clients or important collaborators, why not invite them out for a drink and show them you value their business, or use the time to meet up socially with a potential client or collaborator.
In an era of automated spam, a genuine, personal touch goes a long way in ensuring you’re the first person they call in the autumn.
6. Reduce time stuck in traffic and embrace virtual meetings
While we love a face-to-face meeting, the 2026 emphasis on sustainability and efficiency means video calls remain the gold standard for summer. Save yourself the stress of “operación salida” traffic and the midday heat by keeping meetings digital. Use the time you save on commuting to enjoy a longer lunch or an earlier finish.
7. Strategic Summer Promotions
If you still need to hit targets, and usual products or services aren’t selling, think about what your clients need specifically during the summer months. Put yourself in your clients’ shoes and work out how you can help them and then promote that hard during the high season. Are there services you can package differently to suit the season? Offering a “Summer Audit” or a “September Readiness” promotion can provide the incentive clients need to commit to a project during the quieter weeks.
8. Levering Hybrid Events
The Costa del Sol event calendar is packed in the summer, but it’s not all about the beach clubs. From “Sundowner Networking” to hybrid webinars, there are plenty of ways to stay visible. If you can’t attend in person, see if you can sponsor a local event or participate in digital community forums to keep your brand presence high.
9. Upskill for the Autumn
Professional development shouldn’t stop because it’s hot. The summer is a great time to dive into those long-form courses you’ve been putting off—whether it’s mastering new AI tools, improving your Spanish, or refining your digital marketing skills.

10. The Power of the “Hard Reset”
Small business owners often suffer from “vacation guilt,” fearing they’ll miss a lead if they unplug. In reality, a burnt-out founder is a liability to their business. Don’t be scared to take a proper break. Recharge, disconnect from the “Always-On” culture, and trust that your systems (and your team) will hold the fort. You’ll return with more clarity and energy for the final push of the year.
